Why a Chinese military plane took off and landed at the French Embassy in Beijing
Chinese state media has reported that a Chinese Air Force jet flew over the French capital early on Friday morning.
Chinese state media said the Chinese military had come to evacuate a passenger on board a military jet in French Guiana.
The plane was taking off from the French Guianan Air Base in Guiana and was escorted by military aircraft.
State media has not confirmed the report, but it could be a sign of China’s plans to make preparations for a major military exercise.
France has been on high alert for possible military attacks on the capital as it tries to counter Beijing’s growing military presence.
China, the world’s second-largest economy, has been building up its military forces in China’s Xinjiang region, a region with a Muslim majority.
Earlier this month, China announced it would host the fifth annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Shanghai.
The summit, which is being attended by the United States, South Korea and Japan, will focus on the development of China-backed policies in Asia and the Pacific.
